hello everybody.
we want to launch voip service for our customers. earlier this year we idenified a white label provider that at first seemed great. prices were good, OSS super easy to use, provisioning was a snap. testing went well and everything seemed great.
Just as we began our pilot rollout they started having a lot of problems. there was a day long outage. then strange call drops. then g.729 just stopped working one day and we had to scamble to switch everyone to g.711. every time we call support it's the same stupid troubleshooting procedure that doesn't address the problem and I have to call the owner on his cell phone to get him to let us talk to his uber geek.
Obviously that just isn't gonna get it done.
I think one of our mistakes was to use a fully hosted service. I think at a minimum we need to control the call processing if we're going to put our copany logo on it. is anyone else using a white label provider with success?
recommendations? build our own asterisk box? buy one? use wholesale provider w/sip trunk? we could get a PRI but our costs would be a lot higher I reckon.
thanks.
I think I know who your old provider was. I had them too. I recommend bandwidth.com. They rock! Call and ask for Luke. The company actually provides bandwidth, but since their network got so big VoIp just seemed natural. They are based out of NC and have about 250 employees. They are invisible to my subscribers which I like, they have full e911, they let you control the CID and the directory listing and the prices are the best. about .55 per month per DID and $30.00/month for an unlimited channel. A channel equals one active call. I have about 120 phone subs and use 8 channels. My bill is under $300.00/month for 120 people! I've been burned bad by crappy VoIp companies. Bandwidth.com has my vote.

we went with bandwdith.com and rolled our own asterisk server. so far so good. can order DIDs on the fly and the porting department is quite responsive.
we've got some pilot customers using grandstream ATAs, but for widespread deployment using an emta would be preferrable of course.
We're lookiig at what emta's we might want to use. seems like two commonly used ones are the arris 502 and the motorola sbv5121.
thoughts and recommendations? what is the easiest to provision and support? what is the most reliable under adverse cable plant conditions? our CMTs are cisco 7246VXR and one 7114.
Thanks!
Your best bet is almost certainly an Arris modem any of their models should work the 602G is the current de facto standard.
Why Arris, because they have been doing SIP mta's for quite a while, have good documentation, and is what most everyone around here uses. Motorola, while they have been making cable modems since the beginning, are brand new players to the SIP world and will probably be a while till you want to use them in a production enviroment, give em a chance to work out the bugs, they just came out with the sip firmware in last month or so.
We use Arris 502G and 602G with 7246vxr and non vxr chassis with great results, provisioning is very doable but it is a little bit different from normal modem provisioning so be prepared for that.
Guys i have over 400 TM4026 on my network and i am looking to implement VOIP services to my customers , i have a Trixbox server all set and ready to go , connected to multiple carriers , i need someone that have successfully setup the MTA with sip to assist me in implementing this project.
i can be contacted at velgroup@aol.com
We have had good luck with big river telecom, they do a great job.
We are using several VoIP providers, one of the best we've worked is Magrathea (www.magrathea.net), though they are UK-based, so don't know how comfortable would be for you to work with them. They do have outstanding support & call quality, esp. to everywhere around Europe.
We've rolled our own Asterisk box here, along with basic provisioning of services, and have done billing also. If you decide to go that way, we are also doing consulting services, and can share our experience for a reasonable price. Drop me a line if you are interested - root at net1 dot cc

Hey guys, just an offtopic thought:
if you have plenty of minutes for eastern europe perhaps we can scramble a deal. we can offer probably the best rates for eastern europe. if you are interested, please drop me a line to iznogud (at) gmail and I will hook you up with my wholesale department. also, anyone who can distribute lots of calling cards could probably make a deal, so feel free to contact me as well...
best regards
