use upstream frequencies higher than 42 Mhz - CMTS C100G

Hi

We have added nodes that support up to 85 Mhz, I have a C100G CMTS

Configure to test these frequencies on an upstream interface

interface upstream 10/2.0
frequency 80000000
channel-width 3200000

interface upstream 10/2.1
frequency 76000000
channel-width 3200000

interface upstream 10/2.2
frequency 72000000
channel-width 3200000

Interface upstream 10/2.3
frequency 68000000
channel-width 3200000

I have problems: Cable Modem do not go online

What do you recommend me to do, I would like to know if the Modem supports these frequencies higher than 42Mhz

I have tested with the SBG6580 and SBG6782-HH Cable Modem Models

Question:

something additional must be configured in the CMTS or in the docsis files

I am attentive to your help

use upstream frequencies higher than 42 Mhz - CMTS C100G

Hi

Please help me indicating which lines to add in the docsis file

Reviewing I found these:

DiplexerBandEdge
{
DiplexerUpstreamUpperBandEdge 2;

}

Attached docsis file that I currently use

In the cmts configuration I understand that this line should only be added in the interface docsis-mac

cable diplexer upstream-upper-band-edge 2

I want to know if these cable modem models (SBG6580, CISCO DPC3825, SBG6782-HH) support frequencies higher than 42Mhz

I am attentive to comments and help

File attachments:

file attached

the modem file is attached for 85Mhz upstream diplex. as for the modem if they support it, you'll have to try on them to confirm.
I've not tried on those modems. test it and let the group know please

Hi

I added this two lines in the configuration of the interface docsis-mac in the CMTS C100G

interface docsis-mac 1
upstream extended-frequency-range
cable diplexer upstream-upper-band-edge 2

I added these lines in the docsis file for the cable modem:

Diplexer band edge
Diplexer Upstream Upper Band Edge:Upstream Frequency Range up to 85 MHz

I attach the docsis file that I use in the test

doing these configurations does not work, the modems do not go online

How can I confirm that the Modem supports frequencies higher than 42Mhz, the modems are docsis 3.0

Attached the Configuration in the CMTS of: interface docsis-mac and interface upstream 4/0

Please help me to solve this

cmcaldas
went back and checked a few things

so the oid for the diplex isn't the same for all vendors. original sent was the default, but Arris uses a different string as well does Netgear. myself, I'm not a fan a Arris and between the two, prefer the Netgear. key is having updated firmware.
attached the snmp info for Netgear. won't work for Arris, it'll take a couple of days to find the arris snmp string to change the diplex to 85Mhz

Hi
reviewing the data sheet of these cable modem models:

Contains this information:

Model: SBG6782-HH
Frequency Range
5–42 MHz (edge to edge)

Model: SBG6582
Frequency Range
DOCSIS 5-42 MHz (edge to edge)

Model: CISCO DPC3825
Operating Frequency Range
5 to 42 MHz, 5 to 65 MHz or 5 to 85 MHz

Operating Frequency Range
5 to 42 MHz, 5 to 65 MHz or 5 to 85 MHz

With this information I want to confirm if I can use the CISCO DPC3825 with frequencies higher than 42Mhz
What line should I add to the docsis file to make it work with this model, I did tests with the DPC3525 model but it did not work for me

I attach the data sheet of these cable modem models

please help me

Please confirm if these modules support frequencies higher than 42 Mhz, between 5 to 85Mhz

Please help me

kwesibrunee
yes those modules support 5

yes those modules support 5-85 MHz.

With those modems Cisco EPC, you will need to apply the vendor specific mib that switches the modem from 5-42 MHz to 5-85 MHz. This will need to be added to the modem config. Because it is applied from config you need an upstream between 5-42 MHz for the modem to log on to in the first place.

Most people use ATDMA from 5-42 MHz and OFDMA between 42-85MHz.

use upstream frequencies higher than 42 Mhz - CMTS C100G

Hi kwesibrunee

Thank you very much for your help

I am new to this topic of using frequencies above 42Mhz

In the docsis file add these Lines

Diplexer band edge
Diplexer Upstream Upper Band Edge:Upstream Frequency Range up to 85 MHz

This is the Configuration of interface docsis-mac in the CMTS where I add these two lines
upstream extended-frequency-range
cable diplexer upstream-upper-band-edge 2

I want to know if I need something different of apply the vendor specific mib that switches the modem from 5-42 MHz to 5-85 MHz

Please help me find the necessary oid

use upstream frequencies higher than 42 Mhz - CMTS C100G

Hi

Any help to find the vendor specific mib that switches the modem from 5-42 MHz to 5-85 MHz, Cable Modem CISCO DPC3825

regards

kwesibrunee
A little quick research, and

A little quick research, and it looks like different versions of DPC3825 were made for different diplexer combinations, but it does not look like they are software switchable.

you can use this readonly oid to see what kind you have
Name: saHwDescrDiplexer
Type: OBJECT-TYPE
OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.1429.78.4.1.7
Full path: iso(1).org(3).dod(6).internet(1).private(4).enterprises(1).sa(1429).saVoip(78).saHardware(4).saHwDescr(1).saHwDescrDiplexer(7)
Module: SA-HARDWARE-MIB

Parent: saHwDescr
Prev sibling: saHwDescrPowerSupply
Next sibling: saHwDescrMainProcessor

Numerical syntax: Integer (32 bit)
Base syntax: INTEGER
Composed syntax: INTEGER
Status: current
Max access: read-only [r--]
Value list: 1: none(0)
2: north-america-5-42(1)
3: europe-5-65(2)
4: japan(3)
5: korea(4)
6: north-america-85-108(5)
7: europe-5-85(6)

or you can use this data sheet to look up the part number and see what diplexer it came with.
https://www.multicominc.com/wp-content/uploads/Cisco-%E2%80%93-DPC3825.pdf

looks like part # 4039640 is your closest bet but it is 5-65 MHz.

It is possible they made 5-85MHz and that it is switchable, but it does not seem to be via SNMP, perhaps there is different firmware builds.

use upstream frequencies higher than 42 Mhz - CMTS C100G

Hi
I am testing with the CISCO EPC3928S Modem, in the datasheet this is written:

Upstream Frequency Range: 5 - 65 MHz (5 - 85 MHz optional)

This is the result of snmpwalk with the OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.1429.78.4.1.7

snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 10.10.191.28 1.3.6.1.4.1.1429.78.4.1.7
iso.3.6.1.4.1.1429.78.4.1.7.0 = INTEGER: 2

some way to change it to 5 - 85 Mhz in this version of Modem

please help me
