UBR10K cable upstream max-ports

Hi!

Why I can't set cable upstream max-ports to 0? It show me that valid values is from 1 to 8, but on another ubr10k i have following cfg and it's 0 in cable upstream max-ports on 8/0/4:

I commonly do the max-ports 0 when configuring a card... Quickest way to blow away all the existing upstream configs!

Do both your UBR have the same IOS version?

More than 8 US

Is it possible to have more than 8 US on 1 MAC Domain on any line cards?

UBR10K : max 8 US per mac

UBR10K : 3G60 and 2020, max 8 US per mac domain (this is a big pain, especially on 3G60)

CBR8 : max 16 US per mac domain (so much better)

This is a big problem :(

There are three FN with shared DS and separate US (one optical transmitter and different optical receivers).
One DS with 5x20 card (186 MHz) and 16 DS with SPA (338-458 MHz, 2x8 BG), 6 US with 5x20 card. Getting 8x2 for D3 modems. DTI server is available.

I want 8x4 in all FN.
Do I understand correctly that without changing the CMTS, i can only solve it by dividing it into different MD?

So you want to do : 1 mac

So you want to do : 1 mac domain with 3 FN. Each FN with 4 CH US.

If one node is larger (eg 200 users), and 2 nodes are smaller (eg 100 users each), you could do it by combining the US of 2 nodes :

Node 1 ---> Receiver1 ---> 2way splitter ---> CMTS US cable 0 and 2 (4 channels total)

Node 2 ----> Receiver2 ---+ 2way combiner ---> 2way splitter ---> CMTS cable 4 and 6 (4 channels total)
Node 3 ----> Receiver3 ---/

Node 1 has 4 US channels.

Node 2 and 3 would share and 2nd set of 4 US channels.

Downside of doing upstream combining is that noise from both nodes will combine. So noise in one node will affect the customers in other node.

If you don't want to combine any node upstreams, then your only option is to have 2 nodes per mac domain.
