What is the porpuse of UpConverters? MC28C vs MC28U

Hello all,

I need buy a CMTS to upgrade my old UBR7223 with 2 MC16C cards, I was thinking on the UBR7246VXR, but I really dont know the porpuse of the upconverter on the MC28U card. I have the possibility of buy MC28C too, but if the upconverter is a good idea i will buy that.

Can anyone teach me the differences and the adventages of the upconverter? Or something like MC28C vs MC28U?

Thanks by advance.

MC28C Exactly the same as a

MC28C Exactly the same as a MC16C with 1 additional downstream and 2 additional upstreams broken up by default into two logical groups 1D 4U each.

MC28U has an onboard processor, which works in conjunction with your NPE to process data for this blade. It also has a built-in upconverter and can do ingress-cancelation. The MC28U can also do ATDMA (docsis 2.0) or mixed tdma-atdma (docsis 1.1 & 2.0) upstreams.

If you can afford an MC28U to go in your new 7246vxr you will likely be happier with it over a MC28C. As an added bonus the MC28U is more future proof, if you were to upgrade to a NPE-G2 processor your MC28U would still work though your MC28C would not. (please note that the MC88V cards which work with the NPE-G2 can't co-exist with any other type of card.)
