Hi
I remember some time ago we had a cable modem model that had an web interface that allowed us to set the tuner frequency so that it would not range but instead use the frequency that we input
anybody knows which cable modems have that option ?
docsis3 or docsis2
we have a sector that has a lot of different downstream frequencies and the modems are ranging sometime for an hour before finding the correct one
thanks
All cm from Cisco, Hitron, Terayon, Motorola and Hitron I know are able to do an initial scan and so restart on a specific frequency.
You can also set the DS frequency by snmp in a cm configuration.
Hi
the problem is the first scan
it takes a long time for the modem to come online because it tries all the downstreams that it sees but none except one are good for this sector.
example
ubr1
c3/0 frequency 345mhz sector1
c3/1 frequency 351mhz sector2
c4/0 frequency 357mhz sector3
c4/1 frequency 363mhz sector4
c5/0 frequency 369mhz sector5
c5/1 frequency 375mhz sector6
c6/0 frequency 381mhz sector7
c6/1 frequency 387mhz sector8
ubr2
c3/0 frequency 393mhz sector9
c3/1 frequency 399mhz sector10
c4/0 frequency 405mhz sector11
c4/1 frequency 411mhz sector12
c5/0 frequency 417mhz sector13
c5/1 frequency 423mhz sector14
c6/0 frequency 429mhz sector15
c6/1 frequency 435mhz sector16
we have only one optic transmitter so all the downstream go to all the sectors
so all the modems see all 16 downstreams but only one is the right one
so it takes a lot of time to come online
I know that some modems had a web interface at 192.168.1.1 where we could input the desired frequency
If I understand you right, on the wrong downstream the modem will get a non working upstream information?
An offline modem acts as a DHCP server with 192.168.100/24 range. The modem can be reached by http://192.168.100.1. After you logged in most of them can be initialized on a specific Downstream you have to enter.
Ok a modem-gateway should be reachable at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 .
Hi
I have looked at the gui of some modems but none have the ability to set the downstream frequency
often I can see the frequency that the modem is trying but I can't set it
which modems have that ability ?
can you post a screen capture of what you are seeing ?
Why can't you narrow cast the downstream? the only time I came across this is when a system had five docsis 2.0 systems on the same downstream. it would take about an hour before the modem would first come online. upgraded to docsis 3.0 and narrow cast the downstream and modems would come online in a normal time of about two minutes or less. it would take some redesign to make it happen, but you recover downstream channels for additional bonding or other video services

Hi
narrowcast will be done in 2017
but we look for solutions while waiting
another option that I've seen used in the past was to use a filter when the installation is being done. depending on what group of downstream channels you want to have the modem register, use a filter to block the unwanted channels. this would make for a faster installation if the modem cannot be set with a certain downstream channel to lock onto. if the customer would happen to do a factory reset, it would take about 2 to 3 hours before service is restored. It's a small filter, about 3 inches long and would be connected to the back of the modem during the installation and removed once the modem is online

Hi
That is exactly one of the solutions that we are working on
