Hi all,
Does anyone have a neat way to give CPEs a public static IP? There's no point in giving one to a CM. That's just a waste. They can have a private IP. In the dchpd.conf file I can statically assign a public IP using the CPEs mac address, but I want to somehow give a subscriber a public IP with only their CM mac address. Whatever they plug into that CM I want to give their Public Static IP. I know it can be done because my large monopoly provider does it. I can't let them be better than me at anything. :)
Thanks,

Use LANcity Gen3 legacy modems.;-^)
Any luck, Eric? How about using a NAT box between the modem and the client(s) and just bind the public address to the NAT's MAC? Did you try any of the suggestions in the link?

I haven't really dug into it. You know me though. I'll have an awesome solution. I've just never have the need. Now I have a fiber pipe into one of my properties that can with 255 static IPs. I just want to use them. I'm working on putting my software on a net appliance. It's a one box solution for DOCSIS for cable operators. Static IPs will just be the next victim/feature that I have slain.

It's been a long 15 years of scratching for pennies and knowledge. I've picked up a few things along the way which have allowed me to make the computers do the work. I have hundreds of my own subscribers and a monthly payroll of only about $500.00. I can't take any credit for this. I'm just made from dust like everyone else. God's the hero here. Anyway, I really feel that the private cable industry is making a very strong comeback and I want to help others get there.
