I had periodic problems with internet dropouts. Also, only 2 channels of the 4 worked on the Upstream. Cisco EPC3010
Details:
Downstream Channels
Power Level: Signal to Noise Ratio:
Channel 1: 14.4 dBmV 40.8 dB
Channel 2: 14.7 dBmV 39.6 dB
Channel 3: 13.9 dBmV 40.8 dB
Channel 4: 13.3 dBmV 39.4 dB
Upstream Channels
Power Level:
Channel 1: 54.0 dBmV
Channel 2: 52.5 dBmV
Channel 3: 0.0 dBmV
Channel 4: 0.0 dBmV
I called the cable provider and they sent me a technician. He said the problem was with my coax cables connections, replaced a few cable couplers (extension adapters), some splitters, and also modem. Now the power level is better.
Downstream Channels
Power Level: Signal to Noise Ratio:
Channel 1: 7.2 dBmV 40.8 dB
Channel 2: 7.3 dBmV 39.7 dB
Channel 3: 6.3 dBmV 40.8 dB
Channel 4: 5.9 dBmV 39.7 dB
Upstream Channels
Power Level:
Channel 1: 35.3 dBmV
Channel 2: 0.0 dBmV
Channel 3: 0.0 dBmV
Channel 4: 37.0 dBmV
But still, only 2 out of 4 channels are working in the Upstream Channels. He couldn't fix them, as I think, due to insufficient knowledge. The provider says that they only guarantees speed, not the number of modem channels. I think the problem is on their CMTS side. What causes only 2 out of 4 Upstream channels are working?
I recommend replacing that cable modem. it's an original cable modem with old firmware. they stopped making 8x4 modems like 15 years ago. you should be able to purchase a new modem at even walmart. I recommend a docsis 3.1 modem because it should have more power and is backwards compatible. if they do upgrade to a 3.1 cmts you'll be all set.
generally I recommend transmit levels in the mid 40's. dropping to 2 qams or channels will not cause the modem to go offline, only have slower upload speeds. when that modems drops to 1 qam and transmit in the upper 50's is when you would have intermittent offline or modem having a hard time to stay online. this tends to happen in areas with high temps during the day and come back online at night but runs slow. that would be the cable plant return amp. it could only be the cmts if there's high utilization and low signal to noise issues. being an end user you cannot confirm or check that.
hope this helps

Thanks a lot. I'll try to replace modem with new docsis 3.1 modem, although the maximum speed of their coaxial network is only 100 Mbps. CMTS, seems is old CASA.
there's a few Casa engineers here that can help them upgrade to a 3.1 Casa. coax can still get you a Gb or higher. attached speed test from system I upgraded in Fresno
