Noise cancellation with Docsis 3.0

Hi group

Somewhere, one person told me D3.0 is useful to get easier noise hunting than D2.0. I don't know if that is correct or is a myth. I know D3.0 has bandwidth advantages but is good for noise cancellation? Is easier to hunt noise with D3.0? What would be the main difference?

Can't think of any reason why it would be better. If anything noise is a bit more of a problem once you start bonding upstreams. Perhaps the only advantage with D3 might be that you go through and upgrade some of the other gear in your plant (like switching FP to DFB lasers in the nodes)?

Thanks for your reply. What I undertand is contrary I'm thinking, there's no difference for noise hunting between D2 and D3. Besides, maybe with D3 is more difficult than D2 for channel bonding. So I have to ask with D3 how's the noise hunting? More difficult?

Our way with D2 is to get SNR levels from CMTS per upstream port and we disconnect a branch for a couple of minutes so we haunt noise in a method of trial-and-error. I know this is not the best process but for our limited budget we need to do it in that way .But with channel bonding how's SNR levels?

Sorry for my ignorance with D3 but any opinion would be appreciated.

Partial Service

There is something with "partial Service" where a D3.0 modem can identify either the upstream or downstream channels as unusable if they hit certain thresholds. This of course only works if you're using bonded channels, more than one that is up and down. In the screen shot below you can see the "unusable" channel flagged.

If you had multiple modems reporting this you have some sort of RF path issue.

Not sure if all D3.0 CMTS have this functionality. This was on a system that required that "cable cm-status report" be configured on the mac domain.
