I have two CMTS routers (BSR 64k), one supports 4 channel bonding and the second supports expanded bonding (up to 8 channels).
When I connect an SB6121 to the first, it registers on all four channels and the router shows it is properly bonded. Modem traffic graphs show traffic across all four channels.
When I connect the same modem to the second router which is configured for 5 channels, the modem shows it is registered on 4 channels but the router does not show it is properly bonded. Furthermore, traffic graphs show traffic on a single channel.
On the second router, modems that support 4+ channel bonding appear to working properly. Is there any way to have DOCSIS 3.0 modems that only support 4 channels to work properly in an expanded bonding situation?
For a 4X modem, the modem can only use bonding groups that are 4 channel or less.
Similarly, for an 8X modem, the modem can only use bonding groups that are 8 channel or less.
if you have a mix of 4X and 8X modems, if you want both types to use all their tuners, then you need to make a 4X bonding group AND an 8X bonding group. The modem will look at the list of available bonding groups and choose the largest one that doesn't exceed the number of DS tuners.
Sorry, cant help you with the syntax for Motorola CMTS.
On Cisco you would be doing stuff like :
interface cable 5/1/0
!nominate the primary-enabled DS here
and
interface wideband-cable5/1/0:0
!nominate the 4 DS channels here
and
interface wideband-cable5/1/0:1
!nominate the 8 DS channels here
the modem itself only supports 4 channel bonding. for other model modems, you'll want to configure more than one bonding group for that interface.
Thinking your using the downstream from a 2x8 and 4 channels from a tx32. example bonding group 10 0/0, 11/0/0, 11/0/1, 11/0/2 11/0/3. bonding group 11 0/0, 11/0/0, 11/0/1, 11/0/2. this way you can still use the 2x8 downstream and some of the tx32 or all from the tx32 and not the 2x8 at all
