Anyone have a link that explains things a bit? The cisco docs (that I've found) are a mess. Seems cisco load balancing and docsis load balancing are inter-mingled together so much it's hard to tell what is required for one vs the other. Show run all helps a little I guess but only after you configure something can you see what is going on... Be nice to know what to configure in the first place! My google-fu hasn't turned up much on the subject either. Anyway, if anyone has a helpful link or two it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
From my experience, Cisco CMTS is not CableLabs full certified. I would go only with Cisco Documentation. Some documentation might be available only under a support contract.
Exactly!, the documentation is very poor / jumbled.
I think I have posted some configs on this previously, we use the "cable load-balance docsis-group xxxx" method, were you create one such stanza per mac-domain. The stanza contains a list of primary DS for that mac domain, plus the available US, and then will balance based on modems across DS and US. Pretty much it is identical to the fiber-node statement except it lists the upstream numbers rather than upstream connectors.
However I have a sneaking suspicion that we don't even need the above, and that the CMTS auto generates config based on the fiber-node stanza (as can be seen with show run all)
The docs definitely suck on this subject. I do believe your suspicions are correct. After clearing out the config and starting fresh the auto generated load balancing node configs are there. I assumed they were created by something else I did the first time through, but no... it's automagic. I guess rule 0 has a default of method modems on the US and DS.
