Greetings to all, I am working on a project where I need to have two active CMTS's on the same node, one serving DOCSIS 2.0 modems and a new DOCSIS 3.0 cmts for 3.0 capable modems. I need to manually migrate modems from the ubr7246 running 12.3BC onto an Arris C4 (firmware 8) as needed, and need to do so in a way where there is no service interruptions without our knowledge. I know there is the potential that a particular modem may range on the wrong server and cause a potential service outage for the end user. Is there a server command that someone knows that will block certain Manufacturer OUI's from ranging on a particular server (or both)? Or some way to do this with configuration files?
Thanks all and any for your help or suggestions.... Regards
If you have a docsis 3 cmts, it will run your 2.0 modems just fine, in fact, better because it'll balance their load over all the available channels. I would advise against doing what you are trying to do. However, you can lock your config files down and force your modems to only lock onto a certain frequency, just use the "Downstream Frequency" TLV and set it to whatever center frequency ex: 567000000 for channel 81
As long as you're using the same provisioning server, even if the modem ranges into the other cmts first, once it gets the config file, it'll drop and re-range onto the appropriate channel. The big downside to this is that you have to have a whole set of configs for every channel you want to do this for. I'm sure someone else may have a more elegant way to do it, but thats a down and dirty way around it.
