CMTS lab setup, newbie should be easy help!

Hello, I am trying to config an Arris cadant c3 for the first time to test before replacing a Knovative in the field. This router came with its own Up-converter for the downstream and an output of 45-65 Dbmv. I cant get over the very first thing of getting the modems to acquire downstream lock to even start to get to the rest of the configuration. This is connecting through a Blonder Tongue diplexer currently and a series of splitters and pads i have been attenuating the signal with up to -70Db. I never can get the modems to show an SNR above about 19-22 Db, even with the down pl of +- 5dbmv or so from the modems GUI.

Is there something i am skipping? Or could this be a faulty used Cadant C4?

Its been a while...

but I think this was a working config from the last C3 I pulled out of service a couple years ago.. Should just be able to plug in new IP addresses and adjust the frequencies of the upstreams.... the last upstream is set to SCDMA mode, you may want to change that. (just copy paste from another upstream and change the numbers)

DHCP relay

Looks like i am still having an issue here. Both DHCP servers are on one switch and going to Fast Ethernet 0/0 192.x.x.1 for CPE and 10.x.x.1 for modems. I can ping both from the cmts and ping the cmts ip addresses from the router that is doing dhcp but the modems are not getting past init(d). Can someone see what i am doing incorrect with this config? Thank you!

This typically means there is a DHCP parameter missing. Can you post your DHCP config? Also, what type of DHCP server are you using? If it's ISC you can use classes to separate CMs/MTAs/CPEs, rather than running two servers. Here is how I do it.

# all docsis compliant cable modems begin their vendor class identifier
# with "docsis" this allows us to identify them as cable modems and
# assign them to the right class

Then when you build your subnets you allow/deny the classes per dhcp scope.

C3 - FE!

Not trying to change the subject here, but on a similar level...

Is the FE1 (ethernet) management port on the back controlled in an "Off"/"On" state through configuration, or is it always "On", illuminating similar to FE0? Further, what does the FE1 ethernet cable ideally connect to? The FE1 port I have doesn't illuminate/blink.
