Cable Modems docsis 1.0 uses all bandwidth :(

Hi Everybody

I have a Motorola BSR1000 CMTS and i use a linux provisioning server made for me, the problem is when the cable modem is online use all bandwidth available, the cable modem had configured in dhcp server with a binary file with 512kbps download/upload, but what can be doing this issue?

my server is Ubuntu Server 12.04 Lts and i have a http redirection with squid3 transparent proxy, where i redirect the http connections to port 3128

Thanks for your Help

Is this one user who is

Is this one user who is exceeding the usual bandwidth or all?

If it's one user then probably the modem is using hacked firmware

DOCSIS 1.0 is seriously old! Should be rare to have any pre-DOCSIS 2.0 modems these days

On a Cisco CMTS I would be doing "show cable modem xxxx.xxxx.xxxx qos" for such users who are exceeding their bandwidth

On the Cisco there are a variety of anti-theft measures you can enable too, like cm config file shared secret, dynamic shared secret, lease query, etc

No doubt the Motorola CMTS has similar options

Rate Limit

You'll want to do a show cable modem sv ( short for show service flow ) to get what the modem has for speed, but the one thing I'm thinking is you don't have rate-limit configured on the downstream, maybe upstream as well. you can configure a modem for 512k or even 5 Mb, but if rate limit isn't configured the modem can use whatever is available.
Can you post the output from the sh cab modem sev and the show run (without the ip info) and a show ver
