is there an equivalent command for the CASA CMTS as for the cisco?
For cisco, for example, you can use "snmp-server community private rw" to activate the SNMP server.
If I use "snmp community private rw" with the CASA, I cannot access the CMTS via SNMP. What am I doing wrong?

there is a lot more to casa's version of SNMP
do you have more than just snmp community private rw set?
if not, you can run
snmp default
which will create a default SNMP config
after running snmp default you have to reboot for it to have an effect
