How many CM max per US channel, I can connect in BSR2000 CMTS?

Hello,
I have a BSR2000 CMTS, the US modulation is 64 QAM.

I have the next CM per channel:

VN-BSR2K#show cable modem s t
Interface Total Active Registered SpecGrp Group
Modems Modems Modems Name Id
Cable 0/0/U0 277 0 250 d0-u0 0
Cable 0/0/U1 144 6 128 d0-u1 0
Cable 0/0/U2 370 3 328 d0-u2 0
Cable 0/0/U3 295 0 270 d0-u3 0
Total 1086 9 976

My SNR US averange per channel is:

VN-BSR2K#show controller cable 0/0 | inc SNR
SNR 20.6 0.0 0.0 0.0
SNR 27.2 0.0 0.0 0.0
SNR 29.3 0.0 0.0 0.0
SNR 20.5 0.0 0.0 0.0

When the traffic is hi, the CM's don't coming to online status. They stay in dhcp status.

The CM quantity per channel affects this?
How many CM max per US channel, I can connect in BSR2000 CMTS?
Or my problem is other?

Thank you for your help.

The max downstream is 2048. your numbers look fine, what version code are you running and what does your config look like?
current release is P59. the unit has 4 10/100 ports and 2 gigE ports. I'm thinking your running everything off a single 100 baseT port and that may be your problem as well. try and configure another port for dhcp/tftp/tod as well. Can you tell what your utilization is on the data port?

Frank does make a good point in regards to your snr for upstream 0 and 3. what's your modulation-profile and channel width?
There's a few questions and something you can try.
Configure spectrum managment so the return can move to another spot that is cleaner or lower the mod profile (what profile do you use?)
I wish there was a way to add attachments to this thing, but you can change or make your own mod profile. try scdma if you can't clean up your return or move to a clean spot. below are some of the ones I've created for noisy plant.
there are some by default, run sh cab modulation profile 301 for example. is set for 64Qam scdma.
btw, I average 20.4Mbps on my upstream configured with 6.4Mhz width and atdma modulation. but it's in my lab ;-)
Ixia has an easy program called Qcheck, it's free and you can run throughput tests downstream and upstream.
tcp, udp, throughput and response time. that's the one I want you to run and see what you get.

Possible sw problem

The code your running is old and may have a problem. one of the things you can check now that we've confirmed your running 16Qam on the return is the uncorrectables. when the data is sent upstream the cmts will try to compensate for bad data due to noise, but the cleaner the plant the better. what I find to work best is a min. of 18 snr for qpsk and a min. of 21 snr for 16 Qam.
the snr when you do a show controllers or a show tech is just a quick snap shot. to see what it's doing, run sh int cable 0/0 up 0 sig ( 0 sig would be for upstream port zero, 1 sig would be for upstream 1 and so on...)
run the command about 4 or 5 times and see what the snr is real time and mind the uncorrectables.
here's a single example;
sh int cable 0/0 up 0 sig
ifIndex 8454144
includesContention 0
unerroreds 401574
correctables 80
uncorrectables 23 <<<<<<<<< see if this number goes up. 1 or 2 is ok. if it's 50's or higher then you have a problem.

In the first test the changes of the values is notorious, but after many times the value eventualy not change.

The behavior is normal?

I know, the SNR is average of all CM in online connected to channel. I can see the SNR per CM with this command:

VN-BSR2K#show cable modem phy | inc U0

This is one example in channel 0:

VN-BSR2K#show cable modem phy | inc U0
000c.e52d.af94 C0/0/U0 1 211 2999 TDMA
000e.5c65.7548 C0/0/U0 -4 202 2322 TDMA
000f.9fe9.39aa C0/0/U0 1 205 2999 TDMA
0012.c921.a61a C0/0/U0 0 209 2071 TDMA
0012.c9c8.0004 C0/0/U0 -6 204 2087 TDMA
0012.c9d7.752c C0/0/U0 0 207 2077 TDMA
0012.c9db.b6fc C0/0/U0 -3 205 2019 TDMA
0012.c9db.d698 C0/0/U0 -2 206 2315 TDMA
0012.c9db.d6b0 C0/0/U0 3 211 2300 TDMA
0012.c9db.d6ba C0/0/U0 -1 204 2069 TDMA

In the fourth column I can see the SNR per CM, like example the in the last row have 20.4 dBmV

Re: the SNR per CM

That command looks at the upstream port, not per modem. the command you show tells you what the upstream modulation is for each of the modems and what vert. channel it's on. tdma would be 16qam by default. but you can go in and configure it for qpsk with modulation profile 2.
mtdma would let the modem go to atdma if it supports docsis 2.0 and let the 1.0 modems work on 16qam or qpsk.
think I sent you a sample config.

Ok, I will be reviewing the

Ok, I will be reviewing the profile configuration per channel, respect to the docsis version.

Of curse, I waiting your sample configuration :)

Thank you

PS. My levels of the SNR per channel look are better:

VN-BSR2K#show controller cable 0/0 | inc SNR
SNR 22.2 0.0 0.0 0.0
SNR 27.5 0.0 0.0 0.0
SNR 31.6 0.0 0.0 0.0
SNR 24.3 0.0 0.0 0.0

Sorry if I'm wrong, did I send you my config and sw? I've been talking with people about modem files and software and so on via email, wanted to double check if I sent you what you needed. please let me know. I wanted to follow up

The US SNR on the 1st and

The US SNR on the 1st and 4th are a bit on the low side, and the 3rd and 4th have more modems that I would normally pack on. Perhaps your assigned bandwidth rates are low enough that this isn't an issue for you.

This is the first I've personally heard of someone deploy with 64-QAM on the upstream. Most are doing 16-QAM at the high end. Are you sure you're not confusing downstream here?

Frank

DrakerDG
Yes, you be rigth

Frank,

I miss take, the 64-QAM is in DS and 16-QAM is in US per channel.

The levels of de SNR in 0 and 3 channels, affect the dhcp behavior?

Thank you
