Hello,
I have a CMTS with MC88V linecard, which have activated 2 DS's and 4 channels on each DS. the DS's are seperated in the RF part. so i use the same frequency channels on both DS's.
Now i have a situation with docsis 2.0 modems, my first channel get's overloaded with 50Mbps on e-docsis. and the other channels are with 20% load.
now i want to to balance that. i used the next informations from cisco website: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/cable/configuration/guide/UBR_RLBG_G...
And done the next:
cable load-balance docsis-group 1 index 81
restricted
downstream Integrated-Cable 1/0 rf-channel 0-3
method utilization
threshold load 70
policy pure-ds-load
init-tech-list 1
docsis-policy 1
!
!
cable load-balance docsis-group 7 index 82
restricted
downstream Integrated-Cable 1/1 rf-channel 0-3
method utilization
threshold load 70
policy pure-ds-load
init-tech-list 2
docsis-policy 7
cable load-balance group 1
cable load-balance group 7
cable load-balance docsis-enable
#
Is that enough?
when i show the load-balancing
# show cable load-balance

Thanks for help.
Hang on, you are mixing up two different methods there.
----
First method you could use is "legacy load balance" which is this style :
cable load-balance group 10
cable load-balance group 11
interface cable 1/0
cable load-balance group 10
cable upstream 0 load-balance group 10
cable upstream 1 load-balance group 10
cable upstream 2 load-balance group 10
cable upstream 3 load-balance group 10
interface cable 1/1
cable load-balance group 11
cable upstream 0 load-balance group 11
cable upstream 1 load-balance group 11
cable upstream 2 load-balance group 11
cable upstream 3 load-balance group 11
----
Second (newer) method you could use is docsis load balance which is this style :
cable load-balance docsis-enable
cable load-balance docsis30-enable
cable load-balance docsis-group 10
downstream integrated-cable 1/0 rf-channel 0-3
upstream cable 1/0 0-3
init-tech-list 1-4 ucc
cable load-balance docsis-group 11
downstream integrated-cable 1/1 rf-channel 0-3
upstream cable 1/1 0-3
init-tech-list 1-4 ucc
----
Other notes :
* I agree the Cisco load-balance docs are not easy to understand !
* I am not keen on load-balance by load. I think that load-balance via number of modems is usually sufficient. My configs above are showing how to do it via modems (default method). If you wanted to do it via load you would have to add the "method utilization" statements.
* Probably wouldnt hurt to chuck in a "cable load-balance modem max-failures 2" as well.
* "show run all" is really helpful when trying to see all the hidden/default commands that are being applied as part of the load-balance system (this command may not be available on all platforms / IOS combinations though. Works nice on my ubr10k with 12.2(33)SC)
Thanks for your answer.
I'm thinking about your line with upstream "upstream cable 1/0 0-3" with the second newr version. But i don't need balance with upstreams, my upstream are fisically seperated. so i can't mix the upstreams with the downstream channels.
Now i just activated the first option (the old one) but the modems have a lot of retries and don't change the DS finally.

Seems to be work.
This is the informations i get.
Thanks for your answer
ok well give this a try :
--------
cable load-balance group 10
cable load-balance group 11
interface cable 1/0
cable load-balance group 10
interface cable 1/1
cable load-balance group 11
--------
or
cable load-balance docsis-enable
cable load-balance docsis30-enable
cable load-balance docsis-group 10
downstream integrated-cable 1/0 rf-channel 0-3
init-tech-list 1-4
cable load-balance docsis-group 11
downstream integrated-cable 1/1 rf-channel 0-3
init-tech-list 1-4
I tried that already and it seems to be work fine.
Thank you.
Hi,
I have tried similar config with my box.But not a single modem is doing DCC.Am i missing some thing in config ?

I have tried with different interval and threshold value.
Thanks,

On My CMTS I have this which works for me
cable load-balance docsis-group 50001 index 81

upstream Cable5/0/0 0-1
method utilization us-method utilization
interval 30

init-tech-list 0-4
docsis-policy 100
cable load-balance docsis-enable
cable load-balance rule 1 enabled
cable load-balance docsis-policy 100 rule 1
We have 7246vxr's with NPE-G1's with 12.3(17a) that I am trying to use max-failures on and it does not exist. Any tips?
Thanks
