Hello,
I am trying to deploy voice in existing cmts (before data only). can any one help me example configuration in CMTS (uBr 10K and 7246VXR) and example of the cm config file? the condition is that in HFC plant or in sucbribers CPE, we have cable modem docsis 1.0 and 1.1.
Thank in advance,
How will the voice be done?
Are you going to use an eMTA (cable modem with built in voice ports)
Or will there be a standalone ATA at the customer site?
Or are the users running voice apps on their PC?
we are trying to use eMTA, is there something to configure in eMTA? phone analog directly connect to port voice in eMTA?
With eMTA you typically wont need to configure anything on the CMTS (particularly if you make use of DSx / DQOS-Lite dynamic service flows)
Instead you would generally set a value in the cm config file which wakes the MTA and maybe also provides a hint as to which provisioning method you are planning on using.
The MTA will then wake up and do a DHCP DISCOVER, typically requesting option 122 (packetcable)
You send appropriate OFFER including option 122 which provides the MTA with enough data so it knows how to commence the provisioning process.
MTA will generally then fetch a config file which contains all the telephone / SIP configs (or if you are being fancy the provisioning might be done dynamically via SNMP)
What brand / model eMTA are you thinking of using? If you haven't yet picked one I would recommend Arris.
Arris gear comes with some excellent documentation, and you can also search this docsis.org site for plenty of examples.
Other brands like Cisco and Motorola also work OK, but you will find config examples and community help much harder to come by for these brands. They just aren't as popular or as well documented as the Arris gear.
Hope that helps!
