Ethernet interface not going down after clear cable modem reset command

Hi,

found one problem and looking for info about it.

After I do clear cable modem reset over ubr modem itself soft resets but ethernet connection keeps up, so the client behind the modem itself don't ask for new ip address. Same thing would happen if for some reason the modem would loose CMTS connectivity. Now the thing is after the modem comes back online cpe count on it keep saying 0. Of course we are forcing dhcp verify on cable interface

If I do it via SNMP 1.3.6.1.2.1.69.1.1.3.0 ethernet is disabled and reeanbled and client gets his ip renewed.

Is there some way to get trough this?

Thanks,

Josip

Cable Modem

What cable modem is this? when I reset the modems I have the cpe will go and get the ip address from the cable modem's help web page, but when the modem comes up, the cpe goes and get's dhcp from the server.
Have you tried modem firmware upgrade?

Thomson modems

Hi,
Its thomson modems, but notice it also on some older motorola 5101.
Specific thomson model is thg540.
Software version is: ST8B.01.42
Bootrom version is: 2.1.7dm

I'm looking also in the dumps, ofcourse since there is no reset of ethernet interface on cm , then there is no dhcp request.
It's on Cisco CMTS UBR 7246VXR with MC-28U cards

The thing is really weird, since I didn't noticed it on one of the other cable operaters using same CMTS but with Motorola SBV5121 modems....

Any help is appreciated

clear cable modem reset

Hello,

If you read carefully the CMTS Manual, you might notice that the command :
clear cable modem reset

does NOT always reset the modem....it just resets the connection between the modmeand the CMTS....not the CM itself :

This command instructs the Cisco CMTS to stop sending DOCSIS station maintenance messages to one or more CMs, which effectively terminates the link to those CMs until those CMs time out and reattempt initial ranging. A CM responds to this by resetting itself. Depending on when the CM received the last station maintenance message, it can take up to 30 seconds before the CM detects the missing station maintenance messages and resets itself.

If the clear cable modem {ip-address | mac-address} reset form of the command is used to reset an individual modem, the CMTS router sends a ranging abort message to the specified modem in order to command the modem to reset itself and begin initial ranging more quickly without having to wait for up to 30 seconds to realize it is no longer receiving station maintenance keep-alive opportunities. This behavior is only seen when using the clear cable modem reset command for a specific CM.
