Hi,
Does anybody have any idea how to fix: failConfigFileError? I am using Debian Linux with TOD, TFTP and DHCP. I have the option 122 settings in there and the file is OK. I'm using gupimacmta. I just can't seem to get rid of that error. In Progress Telephony-TFTP stuck there. It's only 9 MTAs on our network. The macs are in the DHCP server and everything. This error comes and goes periodically and I'd love to know how I fix it without trying 4,000,000 things.
thanks
The option 122 dhcp settings should not have anything to do with it as they are dhcp this sounds like a config file problem either MTA or Cablemodem depending on where the error is occurring. Is there any more info in the logs, i.e what it could not parse?
What program are you generating your conf files with? any chance you could send them to me so I could take a look at them? jasonp < at > cablemo.com

The configs look correct, what tftp server are you using? Does it have the capability to log to syslog? If so check for timeouts during transmission of the files in question. If the timeouts are there could indicate a routing problem (not likely if other modems are working) or more likely a plant problem causing some of the packets to be dropped or mangled. Usually requires sever noise issues to cause this.
Any chance I could get the modem logs for a failed transaction, does it say anything other than failConfigFileError? The logs from tftp would be useful as well.
Look at the advanced tab of the modem's web interface at what it parsed your mta config as, compare it with your actual config look for missing lines may help you diagnose a problem with the config file.
I'm using the tftp server with xinetd. I am logging to the syslog. There are not timeouts. Unplugging the power from the modems them plugging them back in fixed the problem. It's not a bad config file at all! Lazy Arris people. Come up with more descriptive error messages. :) I'd have been happy with "We don't know what's wrong". A 'mod res ' in the Arris CMTS 1500 would not fix it. Is there a firmware update for the Arris TM502Gs that fixes this like the fix Motorola has (described here http://docsis.org/node/530)?
Thanks,
Eric
I just had this problem come up in my network, with a little wrinkle, mine did not event start dhcp on the MTA....
I traced my problem to noise in the cable plant, the DHCP offer to the cable modem was messed up and according to the Web interface the dhcp offer did not include option 122 which is sent to all modems. however what was happening is that part of the dhcp response was garbled so it could not decode all of option 122, which triggered the failConfigFile error as with you a simple reboot of the modem solved the immediate problem, though until they fix the noise issue it could come back.
