If your CMTS supports it netflow can do what you want:
the process is simple you turn on netflow, configure it to export the information to a server and then view the info on the server. See your CMTS manufacturer docs for how to do this
vendors such as solarwinds and manageengine have servers to facilitate your needs. http://www.manageengine.com/products/netflow/ is one that has a free version that supports up to 2 interfaces (i.e. Cable Blade or Bundle basically one or two CMTSes) forever.
depending on your traffic you may need a very robust server as it can be a ton of information
I used netflow for 9000 customers and the servers barely notices. Remember netflow only sends the statical aggregated data of your TCP/IP transactions.
I actually wrote code to process netflow and have the Internet usage of my customers in a database backend. In my opinion it is vital to have this data to manage an Internet business.
You may want to look into Ntop. I believe there is a way to process flows from devices without netflow by simply hanging a collector off the device via a hub. Been a while since I've looked into it, but it may be the ticket.
Hello,
You can use cacti, i can send you some templates for modem signals and traffic, i'm grafing everything with cacti. It's easy to use and works with all kind of modems.
Hi, you can do it via SNMP where you have to do a snmpget, but when a CM resets you'll get a corrupted data. But the far most efficient way of doing it would be IPDR. I've created a simple tutorial http://bajosworld.wordpress.com/docsis-ipdr/ where you can see how it works.

Hi Group
I have a BSR2K Motorola and I've been looking in docs about netflow and it seems is not supported. For this device is there another feature?
Thanks in advanced

Do you know what's the best configuration for Cisco CMTSs routers? Is there any recommendation you could make me know to monitor the CMs with ntop?
Hi,
If you need to see specific info and a canned package won't do it and/or you don't have time to fuss with it... I could write you anything you need.

Do share :)

Hi! But, are you doing those graphs with NetFlow information in Cacti? Or are you using SNMP information?
Hello,
i'm using snmp to graph the traffic and cm signals. but now i really want someway to right the traffic in a file or some db. is that possible?
Cacti templates in the attachment. - just rename the extension from .txt to .xml and import it into cacti.
Regards.
