Guys,
I have observed that throughput performance is always in spike pattern compare to any other last mile technology(FTTB,GPON).
e.g 1 mbps download will be in 800 kbps-1024 kbps range in DOCSIS. While same file ,same test pc in GPON will be constant 1024 kbps.
I have tried that with various plants(UBR7200,MC28,MC88),various modems(D2-D3),various tools(FTP download, iperf with UDP) in lab setup.
In D3 lab setup i am able to peak 143 mbps ,still throughput in 139-143 range, not any constant value. In lab i used *nix servers with plenty of
resources connected directly on CMTS and behind CM.
While on GPON or Ethernet or Wifi it will be always flat(top line) performance.
Keeping Ethernet aside as it have better framing technology.
GPON which uses similar kind of flows in downstream and TDM on the upstream side.
Wifi which uses RF (diff. freq range) exposed to various elements and interference.
Still they are performing better from end user perspective.
Even i have seen youtube video about D3 speed test(comcast,Cox). They also peak to max then die down.May be speed test file will be download faster so cannot judge.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_s9cVqSXQ_I Comcast
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRQ5Dzi9AEY Test is around 6:40
Can some expert Guru throw light on it or i am the only having this kind of problem?
Thanks,
